CCTV Warehouse Perimeter for Enterprise

Enterprise warehouse perimeter security demands a robust, scalable, and intelligent surveillance system that can withstand harsh industrial environments and provide real-time threat detection. In Indonesia, where warehouses often span vast areas in industrial zones like Bekasi and Karawang, traditional analog CCTV systems fall short in terms of resolution, storage, and analytics. An enterprise-grade CCTV warehouse perimeter solution integrates high-definition IP cameras, edge-based AI analytics, and centralized video management software (VMS) to detect intrusions, loitering, and unauthorized vehicle access. Key technologies include thermal imaging cameras for low-light conditions, radar-based detection for long-range alerts, and license plate recognition (LPR) for gate control. Storage is critical: using Synology or QNAP NVRs with RAID 6 and 24/7 recording at 4K resolution requires at least 100TB for a 30-day retention. Integration with cybersecurity protocols ensures the video feed is encrypted and protected from tampering. For enterprises, the solution must also support multi-site management via a unified VMS, such as Milestone or Genetec, with failover to hybrid cloud storage. This approach not only secures the perimeter but also reduces false alarms by up to 90% through AI filtering, enabling security teams to focus on genuine threats. The result is a future-proof investment that scales with business growth and complies with local regulations like UU ITE.

01

Client Profile & Background

A large-scale manufacturing company in Bekasi operates a 50,000 sqm warehouse complex storing high-value electronics components. The facility runs 24/7 with three shifts, handling inbound and outbound logistics for domestic and export markets. The existing security system consisted of outdated analog cameras with DVRs, limited to 480p resolution and no remote access. The company needed to upgrade to meet corporate security standards and insurance requirements for theft prevention.

The warehouse perimeter includes a 2km fence line, four entry gates, and a truck loading bay. Previous incidents of cargo theft and vandalism prompted the management to seek a modern, integrated solution. The IT team was tasked with deploying a system that could provide real-time alerts, forensic evidence, and integration with access control systems.

02

Technical Challenge

The primary challenge was covering a 2km perimeter with high-resolution cameras while maintaining reliable recording and analytics. The existing network infrastructure had limited bandwidth, with only 1Gbps backbone and Cat5e cabling to remote locations. Power over Ethernet (PoE) distance limitations required careful planning for camera placement. Additionally, the site experienced frequent power fluctuations, causing 12-hour backup failures on the old UPS system, leading to recording gaps during outages.

Environmental factors included heavy rainfall and extreme heat, requiring IP67-rated cameras with built-in heaters. The client demanded 30-day retention at 4K 30fps, which translated to over 200TB of storage. With a budget constraint, the solution had to balance performance and cost. Furthermore, the security team lacked expertise in AI analytics, so the system needed to be user-friendly yet powerful.

03

Implemented Solution

The solution deployed 64 HP 4K IP cameras with built-in AI analytics, including 12 thermal cameras for night perimeter detection. The cameras were connected via a dedicated fiber optic ring network using Cisco industrial switches, ensuring 10Gbps backbone and PoE+ delivery. Two Synology RackStation RS4021xs+ NVRs with 24x 16TB HDDs in RAID 6 provided 240TB usable storage, supporting 30-day retention with high availability. The VMS was Milestone XProtect Corporate, enabling remote monitoring and integration with the existing access control system.

For analytics, the system used edge-based AI from the cameras to detect humans, vehicles, and loitering, sending alerts to the security team's mobile app. A backup and disaster recovery plan was implemented using Veeam to replicate video metadata to a secondary site. The network was secured with Fortinet firewalls to prevent unauthorized access. The entire deployment was completed within 6 weeks, including cabling and configuration.

04

Results & ROI

Post-implementation, the warehouse perimeter achieved 99.9% uptime with zero recording gaps during power outages, thanks to a new UPS system and failover to hybrid cloud storage. The AI analytics reduced false alarms by 85%, from 50 per night to under 5, allowing the security team to focus on real threats. Within the first year, two theft attempts were prevented, saving an estimated $200,000 in potential losses. The system also provided forensic evidence for a cargo dispute, leading to a successful insurance claim.

The RPO (Recovery Point Objective) for video data improved from 24 hours to 1 hour, and the RTO (Recovery Time Objective) was under 15 minutes. The client reported a 40% reduction in security personnel costs due to automation. The solution is now being replicated across three other warehouses in the region, demonstrating scalability and ROI of 300% over 3 years.
